Idol Recap, April 30

After waiting all season for Neil Diamond's Idol appearance, all I can say is how disappointed I am! We just loooooove Neil here at Girlfriend Grams and were hoping the top 5 contestants would rock our world. They didn't, but at least David Cook still shines like the star he is.
Let's start withJason Castro judge Paula Abdul. It's usually only the contestants who get crititiqued after the show, but we have to take a moment to discuss Paula's, er, how shall we say this....confusing moment.
After the first round of songs, the judges were asked to provide feedback, and Paula started talking about BOTH of Jason Castro's songs. She was clearly in a crazy state of "what's going on here" and you couldn't help but feel really embarrassed for her. Even Simon looked at her as if to say "it's going to be ok honey, let's just find your little pills and we'll make it allllllll better."
Ok, now on to Jason. I liked him from the beginning, but now I'm starting to wonder if he's mocking this whole thing and is saying nanny nanny boo boo to all of America. He just isn't doing anything worthy of staying on this show, but yet he does. No doubt he's struck a chord with the teeny bopper girls furiously texting in their votes after each show. For the past few weeks, he's admitted on camera that he either never heard any songs by that week's mentor, didn't know the words, etc. You'd think a contestant at this point in the game would put a little more effort into this competition. He's already the underdog, not having the vocal power of Seyescha or the musical talent of David Cook. Jason picked two average songs and didn't too too much with them. I've seen wedding singers show more charisma singing YMCA. Poor Jason. We love you anyway!!
Now on to Brooke White and why America needs her....maybe even more than reduced prices at the gas pump. In a world where crack addicted singers who get into pub brawls are awarded with multiple grammys, Brooke is a breath of fresh air. As a mom to a baby girl, I realize we are in desperate need of female role models our daughters can look up to and emulate. I'll take Brooke anyday...she's the anti-Britney! Many starlets today are not only famous for being famous, their brushes with the law only add to their allure. By the age of 21, most young actresses and singers have had drug and/or alcohol related car crashes, multiple dui's, they've been in and out of rehab several times, have made one or more sex tapes, pumped out a couple of kids before flashing their vajayjay's all over Hollywood, and it just goes on and on. I'm personally sick of constantly hearing about these losers!
So America...that's why I like Brooke. I really, really like her. She may not have the best voice, but she's always humble, smiling and seems more than willing to take any harsh criticism thrown her way. We don't see her in the top two finale, but we're thankful she'll be around in the future! I give her props for her version of "I am I said", one of my favorite Neil Diamond tunes.
David Archuleta - we just don't get him....NEXT!
David Cook - you're awesome! You are the only reason why I'm still watching after the Michael Johns debacle. I was hoping he would sing "Holly Holy", "Soolaimon", or one of Neil's amazing rock ballads. For anyone who isn't familiar with these tunes, check out Neil's classic live album "Hot August Night", recorded in 1972 at LA's Greek Theater. It's a testiment to why he's one of the most successful artists of his time.
And Seyesha...we like you, but you haven't done much all season to show us why you're unique. She'll have a great career, and I hope she also breaks into movies a la Jennifer Hudson, but she might be in trouble this week. After all, someone has to go.
